About The Book

Mena Straszewski has always lived life on her own terms. After graduating from the prestigious Cogsworth University, she landed her dream job as an editor at a publishing company in Queens, leaving her life in Virginia behind. Years later, having established herself in New York, a turn of events reunites her with her former boyfriend and partner in off-color commentary, Peter Monroe, now a single father still living in Virginia. Everything seems to be falling into place for Mena, until one by one, the dominoes of her life begin to fall.

Heartbroken after their long-distance relationship forces Peter to break up with her, Mena’s life is thrown off course in ways no amount of planning could have prepared her for, and straight into the path of Phineas Drake. Phineas Drake is handsome, charismatic, and one of the most eligible bachelors in New York City. He also happens to be the founder of Drake Publishing and Mena’s boss.

Between red carpet events and luxury penthouses, Phineas shows Mena a life she could only imagine before. But just as she’s beginning to move on, Peter finds his way back to her, and for the first time in her life, Mena is rendered indecisive; torn between the life she always wanted and the one she never knew she needed.

Hi, Everyone!

I'm Sara Furlong Burr, award-winning author of contemporary romance novels filled with plenty of angst and heartbreak. Welcome to my website, where I aim to provide you with the latest information on my upcoming releases, giveaways, and books (mainly in the romance genre) that I think you'll enjoy.

Some facts about me.

I was born and raised in Michigan, but I yearn to move somewhere warmer and sunnier, as I am by no means a winter girl.  Aside from an author, I'm also a mother to two smart, beautiful, not-so-little-anymore girls, the wife of a soldier, and a paralegal by day. When I'm not writing, you can find me hanging out with said family; reading in my chair, wrapped up in my favorite blanket; attending either a Tigers or a Lions game with the hubs; or putting on a solo performance in my car, featuring my eclectic taste in music, much to the amusement of those sharing the road with me.

Check out my blog for writing tips and insight, and here to learn more about the rest of my books.

Love that endures tragedy and triumph reveals its true nature in this second chance at love story. The author has created endearing characters who face challenges yet remain true to who they have become after a decade from their breakup. This story definitely has some twists and turns as this couple finally find their way back together -Jennifer McCord, Next Generation Indie Book Awards Judge

★★★★★ It is the clever conversation between Luke and Elle that tells the story of how they met, their intelligence, their education, their history, the depth of their connection to each other, the deep things they share in common . . and (despite Elle's rather tragic upbringing) . . . it's funny as heck! - Goodreads Reviewer

★★★★★ WOW!!!! I am not sure where to start in order to describe how much I loved this book! The story line was so different from any other second chance romance and it really drew me in and had me hooked right away. - Sassy Southern Book Blog

★★★★★ ...the book is so well-written, so descriptive, and so carefully driven in its storytelling that I plowed through it in a single evening. -Goodreads Reviewer

★★★★★ This story tore me apart and put me back together. -Goodreads Reviewer

★★★★★WOW! Just wow! I absolutely loved this story. It was so emotional and powerful. I liked how the author incorporated their backstory throughout the time Elle was back in Virginia. I enjoyed all the characters and felt so much of their heartbreak. While I loved the ending, I really wished it had a little more...maybe an epilogue. THIS IS A MUST READ!! -Goodreads Reviewer

My Recommended Reads

For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life--until the unthinkable happens.

My Review

★★★★★/5

I can't even begin to describe this book. I've never read anything quite like it, and I probably never will again. Each sentence was pure poetry, and the ending-oh, that ending-was the definition of poetic justice. Ms. Owens does a fabulous job creating both characters the reader loves and characters the reader loves to hate. I can't tell you how often I felt compelled to wrap my arms around Kya Clark (aka "The Marsh Girl"), a girl who only wanted to be loved and never abandoned again. I found myself inspired by Kya's strength, her tenacity, and her love of nature-the one constant in her life. Ms. Owens' descriptions of the marshlands, estuaries, and various flora and fauna were so vivid you honestly felt like you were standing on the shore with Kya feeding the gulls. Where the Crawdads Sing was by far one of the best books I've read in quite a while, and I highly recommend it to, well, everyone.
